Everyday interaction
Even though the reading this week had many different motifs, the thing that continuously kept on getting to me was this notion of "saving face"and the obligations, expectations and funnily enough responsibilities that society put on us and also ourselves. We have this notion of self expression, self belief and also many personal attributes that we like to express our own creativity, but we have to be careful not to offend anybody or break the social norm. Me personally i dont give two shits.
I guess the whole "there is a time and place for everything" comes to effect in small doses, but living in an age where self expression and individuality is at its peak, within regards to fashion, music, art etc. It seems that this faux pas that have been around for centuries still are dominating and making us become even more of a contradiction than we already are.
"Saving face’ or ‘facework’ are the things that we do to maintain ourselves (our social dignity) as well as to maintain others. By saving face we avoid embarrassment and attempt to maintain the obligations and expectations set down for us. For me personally i lost this many years ago and quite frankly i dont give a damm. But for many its everything, and sometimes being politically correct in the way that we express our selves, or appear to be something else , or even just have this two face persona thing going on, i often being your self (whatever that is anyway) is a much more easier "face" to wear.
I often aspire and take much of inspiration from the king of individualism, Mr Jacko himself... The Individual.
Enjoy :)
